The last step was launched: Please sign again the European Constitution for Protection of Animals
“Politischer Hintergrund und Zeitrahmen Die Entwicklung der Europäischen Verfassung wird ab Mitte Juli von den Staats- und Regierungschefs der EU-Staaten fortgesetzt. Die Aufgabe des Europäischen Konvents einen Verfassungsentwurf zu erarbeiten, ist dann erfüllt.
Ausdauer führt zum Ziel
In Deutschland haben wir 12 Jahre lang harte Lobbyarbeit für die Aufnahme des Tierschutzes in die unsere Verfassung geleistet. Im Jahre 2002 haben wir - entgegen allen früheren politischen Prognosen - dieses Ziel erreicht!. Es wird uns nichts davon abhalten, auch die Aufnahme des Tierschutzes in die europäische Verfassung mit großer Ausdauer zu verfolgen. Dank an alle, die sich aktiv daran beteiligen. “
"Whether animal transports, the »Herodes« premium or cheap egg imports - each day we are confronted with infringements of animal welfare. They will be overcome only if the protection of animals against avoidable, senseless cruelty is included in the future EU Constitution. The EU member states intend to adopt the European Constitution by the end of this year. This is why we call upon every European citizen to support the EU-wide campaign to incorporate animal welfare into the EU Constitution. You will find a petition letter and further information on this site.
With the prepared petition letter addressed to to the heads of the state and the government of the member state or the candidate country you are belonging to you can support our call to include the protection of animals against avoidable, senseless cruelty as an objective in the future EU Constitution and to recognize animal protection as an indispensable part of European culture. Unfortunately the draft Constitution prepared by the European Convention does not incorporate animal welfare. During the convention three proposals to include animal welfare have so far been made by some members (see PDF documents fischer.pdf, voggenhuber1.pdf, voggenhuber2.pdf). Now it is necessary to support these proposals by writing petitions to the heads of the states and governments.
Please fill in the petition letter and return it to us so that we can hand in all letters to the heads of the states and governments. Also we will present copies of these petitions at the Intergovernmental conference in Rome. We call upon every European citizen to support the Animals´Constitution campaign. Every single letter counts in having animals recognized and protected as sentient beings before the European law. The recognition of animal welfare as one of the constitutional treaty's objectives of the EU is a basic prerequisite for urging courts and state authorities all over Europe to prevent cruelty to animals."
